Cheri's Very Solemn Selection

Despite the fact that I told her that I didn't want to watch a show about a crazy mathematician, Cheri has chosen: A BEAUTIFUL MIND!

This will be our first real drama. Cheri said she likes shows that have a twist to them. So, rest assured that if you haven't seen this one, you're in for a treat. We'll be watching this show on Saturday, January 17th. That's only a little over a week, so please, please post your comments on Larry's choice soon. If you don't, I'll send Ryan and Sean over to break your thumbs.

Love ya!

Amy

I love this movie, This is a great choice Cheri. Just a side note if you want to rent a copy of the movie just let us know because we have the movie. This is a great flick, because it gives me hope that just because I may be a little crazy does not mean that I cant be a genius like Russel crow was in the movie.
I also like that it is a true story.

Thanks for the boost. I was a bit concerned that everyone would throw stones at me for this one. But I love the show. I am glad others do too. I look forward to hearing comments from anyone who hasn't seen it yet, even if they are stone-throws:) I also own this movie so if you need it, let me know.

I love this show! I have a hard time urging myself to get it out and watch it again because it is so long. I am way excited to have a reason to watch it. It really is one of the best movies ever! Get out your tissues!

I cannot believe what a great job Russell Crow does such a great job. Since this movie i have seen him in a few other things and i think that he does a great job creating his characters. I have a question for all of you. Was the lecture that he was giving when they picked him up real? Or did the wife get the doctor and have him taken and the whole lecture thing was only in his mind? This was based on a real life story, how many others would have been able to ignore the unreal and live in the reality? It was funny when he asked the student if the man who came about the award could be seen by her. However, wouldnt he have to check himself when he was in doubt? One more thing, how could he keep his sense of humor while going through this reality vs delusion? I believe that this movie is a great example of the will of the human spirit and the will to survive. He did not want to just exist he wanted to be able to live even if he had to constantly be on his guard and and be considered crazy. Mom

Yes, Russell Crowe is a great actor. And, as I explained to Nate, I think the real appeal of the movie was the true to life love story. Instead of having a perfect man fall in love with a perfect woman and live a perfect life, it was about sticking through it to be with someone you love, no matter how imperfect they are. The whole delusion thing was outed for me with the chip put into his skin. This was supposed to be a true story from the 50’s. I knew that wasn’t real. The part I wondered about, mom, was that original trip to the government office where he broke the longitude/latitude code. It was full of people other than his government delusion guy, it wasn’t in the abandoned warehouse, and his friends mentioned it. Was that real? The movie was pretty much ruined for me when he almost drowned his baby. I sat there, sick to my stomach until the end, when Nate declared, “Okay, now we have to watch something happy.” So, I also watched the new Psych :). Thanks, Cheri!

This movie is such a good movie, we loved it, I saw this movie for the first time when I was 7 months pregnant with Ben, and the part where he almost drowned his son really got to me too, I have to say that I had so much respect for his wife and for him. She put up with so much,I thought throughout the movie that she would leave him, but she loved him so much that she stuck by him through thick and thin. As for him he was an amazing man, and I still want to know how he was able to achieve so much when he was battling with his own personal monstors. We all have those personal monstors but most of us dont have the mind that he had, however, I would have to say that he did have a beautiful mind. Mom, The lecture was real, and the visit to the goverment office was real, but everything else was not. I hope that cleared it up. I have just seen it 3 or 4 times.

I am glad most of you enjoyed this movie. I loved the message in it- that you can overcome anything if you try hard enough. Russel Crowe was great and really made you feel the character. Amy- was it as bad as you expected? Maybe you can get over the baby thing eventually:)
Thanks for watching!

I agree with Cheri, I love the show also. Russell Crowe is a tremendous character actor and the subject matter is fascinating. How would it be to live in a dual consciousness like he did? And he conquered it in his own way. Just amazing.
