Amber has finally gotten around to telling me her family movie night choice. She said this is pretty much her favorite movie ever. She has specific instructions, though. This movie is in Italian and there is a version with English dubbing. She does NOT want you to get that version. You are supposed to watch the version with the Italian speaking and the English subtitles. Got it? I've never seen this show, so I'm hoping it's just fantastic.
We're watching this movie on MY birthday, so think about me while you're watching it. Perhaps make some smoked spare ribs and throw yourself a party. It ought to be very nostalgic.

I love this show! Get out your tissues, you are going to need them (even the guys)! This movie is amazing and I hope you all watch the Italian version (with subtitles). I have seen both and you get a better feel of the story when it is in Italian.
Tonight is the big night that we have all been waiting for. I have the Movie and you dad and I plan to watch it tonight in the quiet of our home together. Dad says, that it will need to be quiet so he will be able to consentrate on the subtitles. I told him that I would read them to him and he said that would really make it difficult. We are going to have a great dinner, bought by Dad, and enjoy the movie together. I expect great things from this movie. I can honestly say that I have never seen this one.
The Movie is over and yes I have tears. This was a good pick for father's day. THe perfect example of a father's love for his family both his wife and his son. Right tothe very end he continued to play the game so his little boy would not be frightened. He never allowed himself to give up or allow his son to lose his childhood through the reality of war. Can I watch the dub version now?
I have torn feelings about the movie, I was really bored in the begining of the movie, but when it got to them going to the concentration camps I got interseted, I was really impressed with the lenghts he went to to protect his son. He was a very brave man, and like his son said at the end of the movie "my father made a scarafice for us". I really admired the way Guido handled the perscution, he just laughed it off and said what is the worst thing they could do. I never imagined how hard it could be, I have heard stories from people who's grandparents have lived thorough the Holucoust. He was a great father whom had so much love for his family that he scarficed his own life to rescue them. I didnt like that part of course but I feel it was the right thing to do, and he felt the same way I would imagine. Good pick Amber, However, I cry enough these days and I was determined not to cry but Yeah right with these hormones, that is impossible. I do have to say though it was really hard to keep up with what was going on because they talked so fast, and I'm a slow reader so at points I got lost.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY TO ALL THE FATHERS
Sorry Amber, but I do have to tell you that I was not impressed with this movie, It was hard to keep up with the subtiles, because they were speaking to fast,so I gave up and feel asleep. Maybe if I was able to watch the english version I might like it better. I'm sure it is a good movie, however, I do like how the father put forth such effort to keep his child from being scared, and to save him from the reality of war. I would hope that I would have the strength to do such things for my children.

A compendium of Nate Quotes:
Before the movie: "Why do girls always like to watch sad movies.I hate sad movies."
When they were on the train: "How about we call it good and turn it off now?"
At the end (all teary-eyed): "Amber needs her butt kicked."
I disagree with Dad and Amanda. The first half was awesome. I laughed through the whole thing. It was adorable.
I did get disgusted during the second half. I have to tell you, though; I didn't cry when the dad was killed. I was able to keep my emotions in check until I saw the American flag on the tank. It's hard to believe people could ever be so evil, but I am certain the good people are stronger in numbers and ability.
What was the deal with the grandma? Is there some significance to the face that she shows up as the family is snatched?
I love this movie. I had seen it once before but could never remember the name of it. great pick Amber.
We watched the italian version of the movie and Katie thought it was so wonderful. I personally like to watch movies that i understand what they are saying. So I thought up the genius idea of pushing the audio button on the remote control and switching the audio to english. I liked the movie a lot .... in english. This is the 21st century. the dvds you get it on have both languages. Watch it both ways:-)
I was not impressed with the first half of this show. It was difficult to get through it. However, the second half was great. I could not watch it with the subtitles. It was too difficult to pay attention to what was going on while reading, so I switched it over to the English speaking. I do have to wonder if the dad would have survived had he not run off to try to protect his family. It speaks a lot to fatherly love, but not as much to common sense.
